Seattle Magazine's Seamless in Seattle Fashion Show 6/8/11

On Wednesday Renai (check out her blog Are You My Ghost?) and I attended Seattle Magazine's Seamless in Seattle fashion show competition at the Seattle Art Museum.

This was a perfect opportunity for us to dress up (which there seems to be not enough opportunities to dress up in Seattle in my opinion) and go out to eat!

We went to Taste, which is connected to the Seattle Art Museum.  Neither of us had eaten there before and we were eager to check it out.  The menu was full of interesting dishes and ingredients which all sounded good, so we decided to order a few small plates to share.  These included chickpea frites with grapefruit salt, deviled eggs, and nettle gnocchi.  All of the dishes were very unique.  My favorite part was actually the swanky drink I ordered, called the 'art pearing'.  It which was made with Smirnoff pear, falernum, cherry infused run, and bubbly.

After dinner, we headed over to the SAM and were hanging out waiting for the show to start.  A girl came over to us and started asking us if we were designers or had seats.  Confused and curious, we said no since we only had GA standing tickets.   The girl ended up working for Vitamin Water Zero (a sponsor) and told us that if we went over to the Vitamin Water table and picked out a flavor to drink, we could sit in the Vitamin Water reserved VIP seats! Wait, all we have to do is drink Vitamin Water and we get VIP seats for free? Score!

This is us pretending to look at an outfit going down the runway...but really the show hadn't even started yet.  I'm not gonna lie.

I honestly wasn't really sure what this competition was all about until that night.  There ended up being two parts to the competition.

/ part one /
Twelve local up-and-coming designers were chosen to participate in the competition.  They each showed three of their own creations to be judged by a panel of judges.  Five of these designers won the opportunity to appear in an upcoming fashion spread in Seattle Magazine.  These five winners were announced at the end of the runway show.

/ part two /
Each designer was given 20 Vitamin Water labels to use in a creation that was to be inspired by the flavor of Vitamin Water.  These outfits debuted at the fashion show, and there was a Project Runway-style Q and A with a panel of judges that decided the winner of the Vitamin Water challenge that night.

Here are some photos from the runway show, but we warned...they aren't the best.  I have a decent digital camera, but the lighting in the SAM was being really difficult.  It was dusk, the lighting was weird, and it just made taking photos not very easy.  I apologize in advance!

A little question and answer sesh with some of the designers...

All in all, it was a really great night and I had a lot of fun! The fashion scene in Seattle is growing like crazy and hopefully I can get involved with some of these events around town.
